What exactly constitutes the difference between caregivers/nannies, au pairs and babysitters?
Caregivers/Nannies are the only professional childcare providers of these three.
Often, formal training and education are part of the caregivers/nannies background
and they also perform light housekeeping.Au Pairs are teenage or early twenties who
come from overseas to the US for a period of at least one year. Au Pairs receive room
and board and a small stipend. Babysitters tend to be short-term childcare providers
and who lack professional experience, education and training as a caregiver/nanny.Usually,
babysitters do not perform any housekeeping duties.
What is the average age of the nannies/caregivers you place?
We place nannies/caregivers as young as 20 and as old as 68.
Some families place great importance on age while others do not.
A family usually specifies their preference and we work within the framework the family provides.
What is the typical salary for the nannies you place?
Salaries vary from a minimum of $ 300 weekly (entry level) to the mid 600’s.
The role and responsibilities of the caregiver/nanny for the position are
considered as well as the education and experience of the caregiver/nanny.
What is the typical benefits package offered?
While this is between the family and the caregiver/nanny, the standard is one paid week
of vacation, six paid holidays and a personal day. Some families provide two weeks
vacation. Some families will participate in some form of subsidy for health insurance.
All live in positions provide room and board and a majority provide a vehicle for
the caregiver/nanny to use.
How long does the process take?
The typical cycle takes 6 to 8 weeks, from the time the family submits the entire application and registration fee to the time the family makes an offer to hire. It
could be a shorter time frame or it could take longer, depending on the family’s
scheduling of the interviews. Sometimes it may take longer if the caregivers/nannies
that are desired for the position are not available. Our advise to families is to start
the search one to two months prior to needing the nanny.
Do you charge a registration fee and if so, why?
Yes. PNCS charges a registration fee. A lot of work goes into matching caregivers/nannies
with families in terms of setting up interviews and performing follow-ups in which we
occupy ourselves by communicating heavily with both caregivers/nannies and families.
Is the registration fee refundable?
No, it is non- refundable and non-negotiable.
How many caregivers/nannies will you provide?
We will provide up to five caregiver/nannies.
Any further caregivers/nannies after the fifth interview constitutes
a fee of $ 30.00 per interview. About 50% of our families hire within
the first two caregiver/nanny candidates referred.
What is your screening process for the caregivers/nannies?
All candidates complete an extensive application and interview process. When a particular
candidate is identifiedas the selected caregiver/nanny and an offer is made, we then
do the complete background investigation check which includes a social security number
verification, a county criminal background check and a driver license abstract from
the Dept of Motor Vehicles. All aspects of the background check must return only
clean results. All references are verified.
Who is responsible for setting up the interview process between the family
and the caregiver/nanny?
The family is responsible for arranging all interviews for the candidates.
When is the placement fee due?
The placement fee is due at the time the caregiver/nanny accepts the offer and within 48 hours
of acceptance from the caregiver/nanny. The caregiver/nanny will not be able to begin to work
until the fee is paid in full.
